Actress-turned-politician Hema Malini, contesting the Lok Sabha election from Mathura as a BJP candidate for the third time, said that she considers herself as a "gopi" of Lord Krishna. She stated that her entry into politics was driven solely by the desire to serve the people rather than seeking personal gain.

"I joined politics neither for name nor for fame. I also did not join politics for any materialistic gain," the Mathura MP told.

Calling herself "Gopi of Krishna", Hema Malini said since Lord Krishna loves the "Brijwasis", she thinks that he will shower his blessings on her only if she serves them sincerely. "And Iam accordingly serving the Brijwasis."

Highlighting her plans for the development of the region, Hema Malini outlined her vision to enhance the Braj 84 Kos Parikrama, a pilgrimage route significant in Hindu tradition. She revealed that Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had approved a substantial budget of ₹5,000 crore for the renovation of the pilgrimage circuit, aiming to make it more comfortable and attractive for tourists.

"Efforts will be made to turn Braj 84 Kos Parikrama soothing, alluring and fascinating for the tourists," she added.
