Who is Kishori Lal Sharma? Congress' pick for Amethi against Smriti Irani
Monalisa Banerjee, Trinamool Congress councillor from Kolkata's north area, has embarked on a hunger strike lasting six days, drawing attention to what she perceives as internal discord within the party.
Her protest stems from the recent establishment of a new party election office in her ward, allegedly without her prior knowledge or approval. Monalisa asserts that the initiative was spearheaded by a rival faction led by Debasish Banerjee, which has created obstacles in her role as a councillor and disrupted the party's unity during a crucial electoral period.
"I have been facing a lot of problems from Day 1 after assuming the chair of the councillor," Monalisa lamented, emphasizing the challenges posed by the emergence of the new party office. "Debasish Banerjee has been after me. Now, he has opened an election office here in my ward without informing me," she stated, reflecting her frustration over what she perceives as a deliberate attempt to undermine her authority within the party.
Despite assurances from senior party leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay that the matter would be addressed and her concerns addressed, Monalisa remains resolute in her hunger strike, determined to seek intervention from the party's top leadership until a resolution is reached.
