West Bengal is experiencing scorching temperatures that have surpassed even the traditionally arid climate of Rajasthan. According to a statement from the Meteorological Department's regional headquarters in Alipore, Kolkata is reeling under extreme heat, with the minimum temperature soaring to 40.8 degrees Celsius, a staggering five degrees above the seasonal average. Conversely, the minimum temperature has dipped to 28.6 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal.

The heatwave is not confined to Kolkata alone; other regions such as Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram, Murshidabad, and Malda are also experiencing temperatures ranging between 30 to 42 degrees Celsius. This unprecedented heatwave has left residents grappling with discomfort, excessive sweating, and health concerns. The Meteorological Department forecasts that this intense weather pattern will persist until Sunday, exacerbating the challenges posed by the soaring temperatures.
