Former TMC MLA Nirmal Ghosh was arrested from a hotel in Simulia, Odisha, following a complaint filed by the father of the deceased victim 'Abhaya' regarding events at the crematorium. The arrest came after Chief Minister Shuvendu Adhikari ordered a reinvestigation into the matter on August 9. Police tracked Ghosh's location after he switched off his mobile phone and brought him to Khardah Police Station on transit remand.
While inside the police lockup, Ghosh reportedly demanded ginger milk tea, egg toast, butter toast, and ghugni, which were provided to him. Meanwhile, local residents gathered outside the Khardah Police Station in a celebratory mood, playing music and claiming that a key perpetrator in the case had finally been apprehended.
Despite police placing a helmet on Ghosh and taking extra security measures, he was pelted with eggs, mud, slapped, and kicked by the agitated crowd as he was being escorted from the station to court. Police have also seized the vehicle used by Ghosh during his attempt to evade arrest.
