Demonstrating a zero-tolerance stance against extortion and financial irregularities, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership in West Bengal has initiated strict disciplinary action against party members involved in unlawful activities. Under instructions to maintain organizational integrity, the state unit has suspended over 30 office-bearers and workers following allegations of extortion, "cut-money" demands, and illegal syndicate operations. Furthermore, show-cause notices have been served to more than 200 individuals for various infractions, including insubordination and unauthorized occupation of party offices.
State BJP President Samik Bhattacharya and Disciplinary Committee head Pratap Bandyopadhyay affirmed that the party will make no compromises regarding organizational discipline or governance standards. Following reports of lower-level extortion complaints, the disciplinary committee was tasked with strict oversight, resulting in over 200 notices issued within a three-month period. Senior state ministers, including Dilip Ghosh and Agnimitra Pal, issued stern warnings that any member attempting to use the party's name for personal financial gain will be immediately ousted from the organization.
Providing details on the ongoing proceedings, Chief State Spokesperson Devjit Sarkar stated that over 100 out of the 200 show-cause notices have already been resolved following thorough investigations. While suspensions were revoked in select cases where allegations lacked evidence or where members tendered unconditional apologies, suspensions remain active in over 30 serious cases involving extortion and cut-money. The party leadership reiterated that strict monitoring will continue across all districts to ensure zero tolerance for corruption.
