Displaying a rare show of intra-party solidarity, three MLAs affiliated with the dissident faction joined the main Kalighat Trinamool Congress group in the West Bengal Assembly premises on Monday to protest the recent attack on Mamata Banerjee’s convoy. The demonstration was organized in response to the Sunday incident in Halishahar, where protesters targeted the former Chief Minister's vehicle with mud and shoes during her visit to the family of a deceased party activist.
The protest witnessed MLAs Khaleq Mollah, Tausifur Rahman, and Bibhas Sardar—who have traditionally aligned with the opposition Ritabrata Banerjee camp—joining senior leader Kunal Ghosh and other Mamata loyalists in condemning the assault. Raising slogans against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the lawmakers asserted that political opposition should not translate into physical hostility or disrespect toward public figures.
The unexpected participation of these three MLAs in the Kalighat TMC protest has sparked fresh debate within political circles regarding shifting dynamics and strength within internal party factions. Observers noted that despite ongoing internal disagreements, Mamata Banerjee’s standing as the central figure of the party continues to command unified support across rival camps during external crises.
