At least 30 students at the Park Institution for Girls in Shyambazar have fallen ill. The students complained of sudden illness on school premises, though the precise cause behind the sudden onset of symptoms remains unconfirmed.
Following the incident, joint teams from the state Health Department, Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), and the National Institute for Research in Bacterial Infections (NIRBI) arrived at the school to investigate. Inspection teams collected food and water samples from the school kitchen for laboratory testing to determine whether contamination caused the illness. A section of the affected students was rushed to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital for medical care.
State Health Minister Sharadwat Mukhopadhyay visited RG Kar Hospital late last night to inspect the emergency and pediatric wards and interact with the hospitalized students and their families. Addressing the media, the Health Minister confirmed that a thorough investigation is underway and stated that the exact cause of the illness will be officially established once the laboratory test reports are released.
