The Malda Government Railway Police (GRP) has uncovered a major drug smuggling operation, arresting three women with approximately 10 kg of cannabis concealed inside the toilet of an air-conditioned coach on the Down Kanchanjunga Express. In a separate operation at Malda Court railway station, police also arrested a young man carrying a large quantity of brown sugar. All four accused were produced before the Malda District Court, and an investigation has been launched to trace the wider network involved in the smuggling operations.
According to GRP sources, the three arrested women have been identified as Pramila Devi, Ankita Devi, and Archana Devi, all residents of the Manihari and Kursela areas of Katihar district in Bihar. Acting on a tip-off, GRP personnel conducted a raid on the AC coach of the Down Kanchanjunga Express and recovered the cannabis allegedly concealed inside the coach's toilet. In the second operation, a young man was apprehended at Malda Court railway station with a substantial quantity of brown sugar. Police have initiated a detailed investigation into both cases to identify other individuals connected to the drug trafficking network.
