A cloudburst in Jadon village, Himachal Pradesh's Solan, led to tragic consequences. At least five people died and three are missing. The cloudburst was accompanied by heavy rainfall, triggering landslides and road closures, including the Shimla-Chandigarh road. Two houses and a cowshed were washed away.
Siddhartha Acharya, SDM of Kandaghat, stated, "Seven people died, three missing and five were rescued after an incident of cloudburst was reported at Jadon village."
Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed condolences, saying, "We have directed the authorities to ensure all possible assistance and support to the affected families during this trying period."
In response to continuous rains, the Himachal Pradesh University canceled ongoing Post Graduate exams scheduled for August 14. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu ordered the closure of government and private schools and colleges on the same day.
Alerts have been issued for heavy rains in various districts, including Shimla, Kullu, and Mandi, with the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall in specific areas. The state disaster management authorities appealed for public assistance and information sharing to aid those affected by the rainfall havoc.
