"Bengal defamed in the name of Sandeshkhali": Abhishek Banerjee
Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has taken his legal battle to the highest court in the land, seeking relief against his arrest in a money laundering case. Soren's arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with an alleged land fraud prompted his plea to the Supreme Court, citing his inability to participate in the Lok Sabha election campaign due to his incarceration. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Soren in the apex court, highlighted the former CM's prolonged detention of 55 days and the absence of a verdict from the Jharkhand High Court following the conclusion of hearings on February 28.
The legal saga surrounding Soren intensified after the Jharkhand High Court delivered a blow by denying him participation in the budget session earlier. Despite his petition against the special ED court's decision being rejected, Soren's legal team perseveres in their efforts to secure his release and restore his political engagements, leveraging the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court.
