In a significant development for aspiring Chartered Accountants (CAs) in India, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has announced an expansion in exam attempts for the Foundation and Intermediate levels. Previously conducted twice a year in May and November, these exams will now be held thrice annually, offering students greater flexibility and more chances to succeed. ICAI Chairman Aniket Talati made the announcement during a dialogue program organized by the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), citing the "ever-increasing number of students" pursuing the CA course as the impetus behind the decision.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, also present at the event, highlighted the growing importance of the CA profession in Gujarat, noting the city of Ahmedabad's status as the second largest branch of ICAI in India. She commended Talati for his efforts in securing approval for the new CA course, underscoring the state's evolving economic landscape, with an emphasis on manufacturing. In a separate press conference, Sitharaman reiterated the government's commitment to social welfare initiatives, signaling a broader agenda in the lead-up to the upcoming elections.
