A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Wednesday granted conditional bail to all 24 accused named in the charge sheet regarding the School Service Commission (SSC) Group D recruitment corruption case. Those granted relief include former West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee, along with key officials S.P. Sinha and Kalyanmoy Gangopadhyay. Although Chatterjee was not physically present in court, his legal counsel presented arguments on his behalf during the proceedings.
During the hearing, the CBI strongly opposed the bail applications, citing the severity of the alleged recruitment scam where unqualified candidates were allegedly appointed in exchange for monetary bribes. However, after examining submissions from all parties, the court ordered conditional bail for all 24 individuals named in the prosecution charge sheet. Reports indicate that the formal trial process in the Group D recruitment case is set to commence shortly.
Concurrently, the CBI has secured the required statutory permissions to file charges under the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act against the accused government officials involved in the recruitment scam. Necessary documentation supporting these permissions has been officially submitted to the court. With these approvals in place, there are no remaining legal obstacles preventing the agency from prosecuting the accused public servants under the PC Act.
