The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has approached the Calcutta High Court seeking permission to dissolve the 12-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to probe the teacher recruitment corruption case. The petition was filed in the court of Justice Amrita Sinha, stating that the primary investigation has concluded and the final charge sheet has already been submitted to the court.
The SIT was originally constituted in 2019 following orders by then Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay to investigate corruption in West Bengal's education sector recruitment. At the time, the court had restricted the transfer of these 12 members to ensure the investigation proceeded without disruption. The agency now argues that since the investigation is complete, the purpose of the special team has been fulfilled.
In its application, the CBI highlighted that the 12 SIT members are also assigned to investigate other active cases, and formal dissolution is required to redeploy them without procedural conflicts. The High Court is expected to hear the matter later this week.
