Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari welcomed noted author Taslima Nasrin at Rabindra Sadan in Kolkata on Saturday evening, where a large gathering assembled to receive her. Addressing the event, the Chief Minister assured Taslima Nasrin of her safety in the state, stating, "The Chief Minister is responsible for providing you with security in a safe West Bengal. You can come and speak as often as you want, whenever you want."
During his address, the Chief Minister also said that West Bengal was free from restrictions and that everyone had the opportunity to exercise freedom of speech. He stated that threats and intimidation belonged to the past and asserted that democracy, the Constitution, fundamental rights and freedom of expression were protected under the present government. The remarks were made while formally welcoming Taslima Nasrin at the cultural event held at Rabindra Sadan.
