Sangeetha, the wife of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor C Joseph Vijay, has officially withdrawn her divorce petition filed before a family court in Chengalpattu near Chennai. Appearing before the court via video conferencing, Sangeetha confirmed that she did not wish to proceed further with the divorce proceedings. Based on her submission and with no objections raised by the respondent's counsel, the court allowed her withdrawal plea and disposed of the case, while granting her liberty to file a fresh petition in the future if required.
Sangeetha had initially filed the divorce petition in February, alleging that Vijay was involved in an adulterous relationship with a female actor, which she claimed to have discovered in 2021. According to the petition, Vijay had continued the relationship despite giving assurances that he would end it. She further alleged that Vijay gradually excluded her from his social and professional life while making public appearances abroad with the actor, causing repeated humiliation to her and their two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Sasha.
The petition also accused Vijay of withdrawing facilities that had previously been available to her and imposing financial restrictions, including limiting her freedom of movement. Sangeetha had contended that Vijay's conduct, coupled with the social media controversies surrounding him in 2024, caused her severe mental trauma. She claimed that the marriage had irretrievably broken down and existed only on paper, though her decision to withdraw the plea now officially closes the court proceedings.
