A brutal double murder rocked West Bengal's Nadia district on Independence Day night after Pradesh Congress Committee member Anisur Rahman and his son, Abu Sufian, were killed by unidentified miscreants. The attack took place on Saturday evening near the Nagadi rail gate in the Bethuadahari area under Nakashipara police station as the victims were returning home in their car.
According to family members and local sources, the miscreants intercepted the car and opened fire on the occupants before attacking them with sharp weapons to ensure their death. Both Anisur Rahman and his son died on the spot. Abu Sufian was a law student pursuing his LLB degree at Kalyani.
The victim's family has alleged political rivalry behind the killings, pointing fingers at local Trinamool Congress leader Jubbar Sheikh and his associates. They claimed that despite Jubbar Sheikh currently being in jail, members of his faction executed the planned attack due to long-standing political disputes in the region.
Senior officials from the Nadia district police rushed to the scene following the incident, recovered the bodies, and deployed a large police force to prevent further violence. A comprehensive investigation has been launched by Nakashipara police to identify the attackers and determine the exact motive behind the crime.
