With Durga Puja 2025 just two months away, preparations across West Bengal are already in full swing. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set to hold an important coordination meeting on July 31 at the Netaji Indoor Stadium to finalize arrangements for the grand festival.
The meeting will bring together top administrative officials, Kolkata Municipal Corporation representatives, Fire Department, CESC, Police, Health, and Transport Department authorities. Representatives from thousands of Puja Committees in Kolkata and districts have also been invited to participate.
As in previous years, Mamata Banerjee is expected to announce the government grant for Durga Puja committees during this meeting. Sources suggest that in view of the upcoming elections, the grant amount may see an increase this year, a move eagerly anticipated by organizers.
A unique aspect of this year’s meeting will be the inclusion of two representatives each from different religious communities—Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians—emphasizing Mamata Banerjee’s vision of Durga Puja as a “Sarvajan Utsav,” a festival for all communities.
The Chief Minister is likely to stress on environmentally friendly Puja practices, including the use of green materials for idols, and strict measures to control noise pollution. This initiative aligns with the state’s efforts to maintain sustainability while celebrating one of its biggest cultural events.
With the countdown to Durga Puja 2025 already begun, the July 31 meeting is expected to set the tone for smooth, safe, and inclusive celebrations across West Bengal.
