Tensions escalated significantly around the Jadavpur 8B Bus Stand area on Thursday as members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organized a major rally. The demonstration was called to protest the violent late-night clashes that erupted on the Jadavpur University campus on Wednesday. Heavy police forces deployed along the route set up strict barricades in front of the local police station to prevent the procession from marching toward the university gates.
As the procession approached the blockade, protesters attempted to forcefully breach the police barricades. The confrontation triggered chaotic scenes in the busy intersection, forcing law enforcement officers to intervene and chase away agitators to restore order. Meanwhile, Left-wing student organizations held a counter-protest near the same vicinity, resulting in an extremely volatile atmosphere as opposing student groups gathered nearby.
Police personnel maintained a heavy presence to keep the rival factions separated and ensure traffic movement was restored around the 8B bus stand. Authorities barricaded major arterial roads surrounding the campus as a precautionary measure to prevent further violent flare-ups.
