A celebratory dinner for India's record-breaking boxing contingent at the Commonwealth Games 2026 took an unexpected turn after Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain pointed out an inaccurate depiction of India's map at a Glasgow restaurant. During the team's visit to 'Mister Singh's India – The Home of Curry', the Assamese boxer noticed that the map printed on the paper napkins and displayed outside the establishment omitted the Northeast region. Lovlina expressed her disappointment, stating that the incomplete representation was hurtful to people from the region and urged the management to correct it.
Boxing Federation of India (BFI) President Ajay Singh supported Lovlina's concerns, adding that the displayed map also failed to accurately depict Jammu and Kashmir. Singh called upon the restaurant management to immediately withdraw the faulty napkins and replace them with a proper representation of India's complete territorial boundaries. The popular Glasgow dining venue, which has hosted numerous visiting Indian sports teams and dignitaries over the years, faced swift criticism from the contingent regarding the oversight.
The controversy unfolded shortly after India concluded its most successful Commonwealth Games boxing campaign, securing a total of seven gold medals. The women's team led the performance with five gold medals won by Preeti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, Sakshi Chaudhary, Arundhati Choudhary, and Priya Ghanghas, while Sachin Siwach and Ankush Panghal clinched two gold medals in the men's events. Lovlina Borgohain secured a silver medal in the women's 70kg category after a closely contested final against Australia's Emma-Sue Greentree.
