The Madras High Court on Tuesday ordered the release of DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin, directing that he should not be placed under judicial remand. The order came after he was detained by the Tamil Nadu Police in connection with a case over his alleged remarks made during a protest. The state government informed the court that there was no intention to seek judicial remand and that he would be released after questioning.
The court directed the authorities to release Udhayanidhi Stalin after the completion of the questioning process. The matter was heard after he approached the Madras High Court following his detention. The state government's submission that he would be released after questioning formed part of the proceedings before the court, following which the High Court ordered his release without judicial remand.
