Microsoft made stock market history by adding approximately $450 billion (nearly ₹39 lakh crore) to its market capitalization in a single trading day. Driven by strong quarterly financial results, the company’s shares surged nearly 9%, surpassing chipmaker Nvidia to record the largest single-day market value gain by any company.
The record rally was largely propelled by outperformance in Microsoft's Azure cloud platform and rapid growth in its artificial intelligence operations. For over a year, investors harbored concerns regarding massive corporate expenditures on data centers, AI chips, and infrastructure. However, the latest earnings report demonstrated that these heavy investments are converting into substantial revenue and accelerating cloud growth.
Beyond beating Wall Street revenue expectations for Azure, Microsoft issued a strong financial outlook for the current quarter, reinforcing confidence in sustained demand for AI services. The single-day market value gained by Microsoft exceeds the total stock market capitalization of several entire countries, including South Africa, Vietnam, and Turkey.
