A fatal road accident near Zero Mile under the Agamkuan police station area in Patna triggered widespread violence on Friday morning. A speeding sleeper bus ran over a male pedestrian, killing him on the spot.
Following the accident, local residents took to the streets in protest, and the demonstration quickly escalated into violence. Protesters set the bus on fire and blocked firefighters from reaching the scene. The mob then torched nearly 10 vehicles—including two police cars, passenger buses, and motorcycles—vandalized a traffic police post, and physically assaulted journalists covering the incident.
The violence resulted in a total blockade of National Highway 30, bringing traffic to a standstill for hours. To regain control of the situation, security forces from nine neighboring police stations and additional forces were deployed to disperse the crowd and clear the highway.
