A 29-year-old man was found dead at his residence in West Bengal's Nadia district after allegedly sending a WhatsApp voice message blaming his wife for his death. The incident took place in the Belgharia-II Gram Panchayat area under Shantipur Police Station, with police launching an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death and examining the digital evidence.
The deceased has been identified as Raja Pramanik, a resident of the Ghoralia Jalpari area in Shantipur. He had married a woman from the Habibpur area around seven years ago, and the couple has a child. According to family members, Raja had previously worked as a migrant labourer in another state and regularly sent money to support his wife and child.
Family members alleged that the couple had been experiencing marital discord for a long time. They claimed Raja's wife had been living at her parental home instead of with him and that their relationship remained strained even after he returned to Shantipur about a year ago. Raja had reportedly left his job outside the state and started a land trading business using his savings in an attempt to rebuild family life.
According to the family, Raja and his wife exchanged WhatsApp messages and voice notes for an extended period on Thursday morning. They alleged that an argument escalated during the conversation and accused the wife of abetting suicide. The family further claimed that Raja sent a voice message holding his wife responsible for his death shortly before he was found hanging inside his room.
Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and recovered the body before taking it to Shantipur State General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The body has been sent to the Ranaghat police morgue for post-mortem examination. Police are examining the WhatsApp chats, voice messages and other evidence as part of the investigation. Authorities have not confirmed the family's allegations, and the investigation is ongoing.
