Panic broke out at Esplanade Metro Station on Kolkata Metro's Green Line on Saturday after a slender, venomous snake was spotted slithering on platform number four. The incident occurred on Independence Day, a holiday when commuters were present at one of the city's busiest transit hubs.
The snake, believed to be a young reptile, was first noticed near the feet of a waiting passenger, who screamed in terror and alerted nearby commuters. The unexpected sighting caused a brief commotion across the underground platform as people rushed away from the reptile.
Metro authorities confirmed that the snake was venomous. Acting swiftly, the station master managed to safely trap the reptile inside a bottle before releasing it into the forested area behind the Esplanade tram depot. While snake sightings increase during the monsoon season, questions remain regarding how the reptile accessed the underground platform.
