The Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate's Detective Department arrested two individuals—including Sayan Dey, a close associate of former West Bengal minister Sujit Bose—for running an illegal sex racket involving minors and executing extortion and land-grabbing schemes in Salt Lake. Acting on specific intelligence, detectives raided a guest house in Sukantanagar on Friday, where they rescued several young women and minors who were being exploited for sex trafficking. Following the rescue and recording of victim statements, police placed Sayan Dey and his accomplice, Anirban, under arrest.
Locals and a regional real estate promoter had previously submitted multiple complaints to the Bidhannagar South Police Station regarding illegal activities and forced extortion at the Sukantanagar guest house. Residents alleged that despite repeated reports, police refrained from taking action earlier due to the accused's close political ties with former minister Sujit Bose. Photographs of Sayan Dey alongside Bose, including Sujit Bose's attendance at Dey's wedding, had reportedly granted the accused significant local influence prior to the recent administrative shift.
Responding to the arrests, Shantanu Sarkar, Vice President of BJP Bidhannagar Mandal 2, stated that the current administration enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy against corruption and crime, ensuring police acted without leniency. Meanwhile, Sayan Dey denied all allegations, claiming they were entirely baseless. The investigation remains ongoing as police analyze recovered evidence and determine if additional associates were involved in operating the trafficking ring.
