Exiled Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen returned to Kolkata on Friday, nearly 19 years after she was forced to leave the city following protests over her controversial book Dwikhondito. Arriving at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, Nasreen expressed her happiness at being back in the city.
"I am really liking it here," Nasreen said shortly after landing in Kolkata. Her return marks her first visit to the city since her departure nearly two decades ago.
Nasreen had left Kolkata after protests erupted over her book Dwikhondito, leading to her exit from the city. She has since lived in exile.
The writer is scheduled to attend a programme in Kolkata on Saturday. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is also expected to attend the event.
Renowned author Shirshendy Mukhopadhyay is also likely to be present at the programme, alongside Taslima Nasreen and Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
