Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav was detained by police in Patna on Wednesday while leading a foot march toward Lok Bhavan. The demonstration was organized by the opposition to protest against the alleged use of an AK-47 rifle by police personnel during a student agitation in Siwan district. Accompanied by party MPs, MLAs, and senior leaders, the march began at JP Golambar and aimed to demand strict accountability and transparency from the state government.
The agitation follows a July 25 incident in Siwan where student demonstrations against exam paper leaks escalated into violence. During the clash, a police constable was seen firing an assault rifle into the air, an action that led to his suspension and the subsequent transfer of the Siwan Superintendent of Police. RJD leader Misa Bharti claimed before reporters that the state administration acknowledged the rifle's deployment in submissions to the Supreme Court, raising further questions regarding police protocol.
Following his detention, Tejashwi Yadav stated that the opposition would continue to raise its voice for youth employment, prevention of paper leaks, and fair examination processes. High drama unfolded at the site as multiple RJD supporters climbed atop the police vehicle carrying the detained leaders. Despite the police intervention and water cannons used to disperse the crowd, party leaders reaffirmed their commitment to push forward with their demands.
