A Thai woman was arrested by Kolkata Police for allegedly staying and working illegally at a spa centre in South Kolkata after a raid conducted by Tiljala Police Station at a spa located on Sarat Bose Road. According to the police, the woman was unable to produce valid documents permitting her stay and employment in India. She was taken into custody and is scheduled to be produced before a court.
Police identified the woman as M. Sangsukniut, a resident of Bangkok. According to her travel documents, she arrived in India in February 2020 on a tourist visa. Police stated that the visa expired in 2021, while verification of her passport showed its validity extended until February 2025. Despite this, she allegedly continued residing in the Chaubaga area of Kolkata and worked at the spa on Sarat Bose Road without valid authorisation. Police recovered her during the raid at the spa premises.
The Thai national has been kept in safe custody at Tollygunge Women's Police Station until her court production. Police stated that her movements are being monitored through CCTV surveillance while investigators examine the circumstances of her stay and employment. Based on information obtained during questioning, police are also investigating whether any other individuals were involved in facilitating her illegal stay and work.
