Tensions ran high in the Liluah area of Howrah district after local residents caught three alleged miscreants who broke into an iron factory by damaging its back wall. Taking advantage of the factory being closed, the suspects reportedly created a hole in the rear boundary wall to breach the premises and steal various metal items and equipment stored inside.
However, their escape attempt failed when local residents noticed the suspicious activity around the closed factory premises. The crowd immediately intercepted the trio before they could flee with the stolen factory goods. Angered by the burglary attempt, locals tied the three suspects with ropes and subjected them to a severe public beating on the spot.
Upon receiving information about the incident, officers from the Liluah Police Station rushed to the scene to intervene and rescue the three men from the mob. Police subsequently took all three accused into custody and sent them for medical evaluation. A detailed investigation has been launched by the Liluah police into the theft attempt and the subsequent mob violence.
