The Kolkata Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive advisory outlining major road closures and diversions scheduled for Monday, August 10. The traffic restrictions have been planned to facilitate a massive 'Tiranga Yatra' procession organized under the state's maiden participation in the central 'Har Ghar Tiranga' program. Led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, the rally will commence from the foot of the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose statue in Dharmatala with an expected turnout of around 50,000 people.
To manage the gathering and maintain public safety, key arterial corridors around Maidan, Red Road, and Khidirpur Road will remain completely closed to general vehicular traffic. Additional major stretches including Kingsway, RR Avenue, Plassey Gate Road, Mayo Road, Jawaharlal Nehru Road, Cathedral Road, Queensway, Lovers Lane, and Casuarina Avenue will also face vehicular blockades. Furthermore, strictly enforced 'no parking' zones have been designated across several adjacent corridors to prevent congestion in central Kolkata.
In addition to passenger vehicle restrictions, freight movement will be suspended along major routes, including the Second Hooghly Bridge, AJC Bose Road, St. George's Gate Road, and central stretches of Strand Road and CR Avenue. However, essential supply vehicles transporting goods such as LPG cylinders, CNG, fuel, medical supplies, vegetables, fruits, fish, and milk will be exempted from the restrictions. Traffic authorities have urged daily commuters to plan their travel using alternative routes, as significant congestion is anticipated across central Kolkata throughout the day.
