Zubair Baloch, the 40-year-old brother of jailed Pakistani gangster Uzair Baloch, was critically injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire on him outside his residence in Karachi's Lyari area on Thursday evening. In a Dhurandhar film-like style, the assailants, who were riding a motorcycle with their faces covered, shot Zubair in the chest and abdomen before fleeing the scene when a local shopkeeper returned fire. Zubair was rushed to the city's Civil Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery for multiple bullet wounds.
Two bystanders were also injured during the shooting incident and are currently receiving medical treatment at the same facility. Following the attack, a video purportedly captured at the spot surfaced and circulated widely on social media. Senior police officer Syed Asad Raza confirmed that Zubair was standing outside his home at the time of the targeted attack.
The incident has sparked widespread panic among local residents who fear a potential revival of gang violence in the Lyari neighborhood. Police officials disclosed that Zubair had previously been arrested in 2012 and was released from custody in January last year. Law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation into the attack, probing various potential motives including gang rivalry and personal enmity.
