Shobhan Chakraborty, a security guard whose video singing Rabindra Sangeet in uniform went viral on social media, is set to perform live on stage alongside renowned Bengali singer Rupankar Bagchi. A former student of Santiniketan's Sangeet Bhavana, Chakraborty had been forced to take up a security guard job in Kolkata due to severe financial distress. After a video of him singing while on duty gained widespread traction online, reports emerged that he had lost his job.
Following the news of his job loss, organisations Bengal Web Solution and Metro Pharma stepped in to extend financial and professional support. Organisers contacted singer Rupankar Bagchi, who immediately agreed to participate in a special joint musical event. The upcoming stage performance is scheduled to take place at Kolkata's Kalamandir auditorium in October 2026.
Tickets for the concert will be made available through a digital ticketing application. Organisers announced that after covering basic operational costs, the entire remaining proceeds generated from ticket sales will be directly handed over to Shobhan Chakraborty to assist him financially.
