Passengers travelling through the Howrah division this weekend are likely to face disruptions as eight local trains have been cancelled due to scheduled track maintenance near Dankuni station. Railway authorities have announced a traffic block from 10:30 pm on August 1 until 4:30 am on August 2 to facilitate the maintenance work.
According to the railway schedule, services from both Howrah and Sealdah will be affected. On August 1, trains 37849 and 36087 departing from Howrah have been cancelled. Train 32414 from Baruipara, 32413 from Sealdah, 36088 from Masagram and 36860 from Bardhaman have also been cancelled for the day.
On August 2, train 36811 from Howrah and train 36812 from Bardhaman will remain cancelled. The cancellations have been implemented to ensure smooth execution of the track maintenance work in the Dankuni station area.
Railway officials said the temporary suspension of services is necessary for maintenance of railway tracks. The latest cancellations come shortly after train services in the Howrah division were disrupted for four days because of non-interlocking work. Fresh maintenance activities at the beginning of August have again resulted in changes to the suburban train schedule.
The Railways have also revised the operation of special trains introduced for the Shravani Mela. Under the revised arrangement, trains travelling from Howrah to Tarakeswar will stop only at Bally and Sheoraphuli stations. Between Sheoraphuli and Tarakeswar, these trains will run non-stop. However, down local trains travelling from Tarakeswar towards Howrah or Sheoraphuli will continue to halt at all scheduled stations.
