The 16th Census commenced in West Bengal on Saturday with the introduction of digital self-enumeration for the first time. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari launched the campaign by completing his own self-enumeration online at Nabanna. The Chief Minister urged citizens to actively participate in the process and assured them that personal information collected during the census would remain confidential and would not be made public. The first phase of online self-enumeration will continue until August 15.
The Chief Minister said the census is significant for two reasons: the entire exercise is being conducted digitally for the first time, and citizens have been given the option to enter their details online through the self-enumeration facility. He appealed to residents across the state to make extensive use of the digital platform and extend full cooperation to census personnel to ensure the smooth conduct of the exercise.
