Pakistan indicated on Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will receive an official invitation for the 2027 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit scheduled to take place in Islamabad. Speaking at a media briefing, Pakistan's Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed that invitations would be extended to all member states in accordance with established SCO protocols. As a member state, India is set to receive the invite as part of the host country's obligation.
Responding to queries regarding a potential bilateral meeting between India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistan's Foreign Minister on the sidelines of the ASEAN meetings in Manila, the spokesperson stated that Islamabad was unaware of any such request from New Delhi. The Foreign Office reiterated that host countries are obligated to extend invitations to all SCO heads of state and government.
Pakistan is scheduled to host the 2027 SCO Summit as part of the organization's rotating presidency. Established in June 2001, the SCO serves as an annual international forum aimed at fostering peace, stability, and economic development across the Eurasian region. The grouping currently comprises 10 member nations: India, Pakistan, China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, and Belarus.
