A 34-year-old woman, identified as Sumitra Das, tragically lost her life on Wednesday morning after the car she was driving plunged into a deep pond in the Prafulla Kanan West area of Kestopur. The incident occurred around 8:45 AM shortly after she returned home on a scooter from dropping her daughter off at school. According to local sources, her husband had recently purchased a new four-wheeler, and she was practicing driving in preparation for an upcoming driving license test scheduled for August 22.
While attempting to maneuver the vehicle out of the garage, the novice driver accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. The sudden surge of speed caused the car to roll out of control and plunge directly into the middle of the adjacent pond. Witnessing the accident, horrified neighbors immediately jumped into the water to attempt a rescue, while Sumitra struggled to escape through the rear door of the sinking vehicle, but her efforts were unsuccessful.
Police personnel and fire brigade officials rushed to the scene following emergency calls. After a persistent joint operation lasting over an hour and a half, authorities managed to pull the submerged vehicle out of the pond. Sumitra Das was recovered from inside the car and pronounced dead. The tragic event has left her family in deep shock and caused widespread grief across the Kestopur neighborhood.
