Almost 70 per cent of the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya has been completed within two-and-a-half years since the bhúomipujan performed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 5, 2020, a key member of the trust set up to oversee its construction. he said.

"Currently the work of the Ram temple is 70 per cent complete," said Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra treasurer Swami Govind Dev Giriji Maharaj. He further said that the big Ram temple in Ayodhya will be opened for devotees in the third week of January 2024 after the installation of the idols.

The first phase of the construction of the Ram Temple began in March 2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown caused a temporary suspension of construction. After the countrywide lockdown was lifted, temple construction resumed again.

A layer of stones was placed at a height of 11 feet in a temple under construction. Eight layers of stones were carved for the temple and 5 feet long granite stones were installed all around to strengthen the foundation of the temple. There will be 170 pillars on the ground floor of the sanctum sanctorum.

Architects CB Sompura and Jai Karthik are behind the design of the temple. As per the plan, Valmiki, Kewat, Shabari, Jatayu, Sita, Vighneshwar (Ganesh) and Sheshavatar (Lakshman) temples will also be built on the 70-acre area near the Ram temple.

Apart from the construction of the temple, demolition of shops and houses is also underway to widen the road leading to the famous Hanumangarhi mandir.
