After the disappearance of a leading doctor, a Class 6 student, the son of a government teacher, was abducted by unknown men and a ransom of Rs 40 crore was demanded his release, police said on Friday.

“The kidnappers demanded a ransom using the victim's mobile phone. An FIR has been registered at Bihta police station in this regard. The victim is identified as Tushar Kumar. He went missing on Thursday evening,” Bihta police station SHO Sanovar Khan said.

Police said the kidnappers used the boy's cell phone to demand a ransom. They also sent a text message on Whatsapp and then switched off the phone. Police sources said it was difficult to trace the whereabouts of the accused.

“My son came home from coaching classes and went to the market for work. When he didn't return late in the evening, we started looking for him. Finally, we informed the Bihta police about the incident,” said Raj Kishore Pandit, father of the victim.

According to him, the kidnapper threatened him not to reveal the incident to anyone. They also said they were observing the family's activities.

“The kidnappers threatened us not to disclose the incident to the police. They also informed me that Tushar is unconscious and if the ransom is not paid, they will kill him,” he said.
